Have your say on proposed changes to how social housing is allocated in North Norfolk

In North Norfolk, the demand for social housing far exceeds the number of available homes. Currently, there are over 2,500 applicants on the Housing Register. Last year only 258 homes were let, meaning that the vast majority of households will never be successful in getting a home.

The Housing Allocation Scheme determines who can join the housing Register for social housing and the level of priority that will be awarded based on an applicant’s circumstances. With such a high level of demand for social housing and only a limited supply of properties, we propose to change the rules on who can apply so we can focus on applicants who live in North Norfolk and those who need our help most.

The survey will go through the key proposed changes and ask whether you agree or disagree with them. There will be an opportunity to add any further comments at the end of the survey.

Following this period of consultation, all responses will be considered and will help to shape the Housing Allocation Scheme.

The new scheme will be published later in the year and applicants will be invited to re-apply/apply prior to the new scheme being implemented from April 2025.

The consultation will close at 23:59 on Monday August 19, 2024.
