Identifying Barriers to Volunteering & Training
Walnut Avenue is looking for feedback on how to make its volunteer programs as well as its advocacy training more accessible in terms of addressing gendered, racial, economic, or other barriers.
1.
If you've been interested in participating in any of our volunteer programs OTHER THAN the advocacy training, but have been unable or unwilling to do so, please select the reason(s) below.
I'm nervous about the required criminal background check.
The available shift times didn't work with my schedule/childcare/resources.
None of the programs or internships offered the kind of service I want to do or experience I want to gain.
I don't see my own identity represented among the staff and/or other volunteers.
I see at least one discriminatory element in the programs and/or in another area of Walnut Avenue.
Someone I know had a bad experience as a volunteer or participant with Walnut Avenue.

If you've been interested in participating in our domestic violence advocacy certification training but have been unable to do so, please select the reason(s) below.
I can't commit to 40+ hours of training.
I could do the 40+ hours, but the dates have never worked out for me.
The format of the training wasn't accessible for me (e.g. being deaf/HOH).
I can't afford to take time off work to complete the training.
I can't afford the childcare I'd need to complete the training.
I can't afford any of the associated costs.
I'm nervous about the required criminal background check.
I'm just waiting until I feel ready to engage with such a challenging subject in a way that's safe for me.

What would help lower the barriers preventing you from participating with us and/or would help you feel safer in doing so? (For example, this might include something like a stipend to cover any days you have to take off of work to attend the training or having volunteerism options on weekends.) Please don't worry about whether or not your ideas sound unrealistic - tell us anyway!
