* 2. What is the analytical maturity of your organization?

We have self-service access to all of the information that is needed to support our decisions. Our data provides us with a strategic advantage. I am able to easily answer any business question objectively with supporting data.

I have many reports I can leverage to get the data that I need. It takes me some time to perform some additional analysis that is often needed to answer more complex questions about the business.

I struggle to get all of the data that I need at times. However, I have the essentials, and most of my decisions are based on information that is, for the most part, directionally correct.

I can access any data that I may need within my organization. I can manipulate reports or dashboards in order to address my specific need or to gain additional insights.

We have clear definitions across the enterprise. There is no confusion in understanding what a given data element means (e.g. unit cost is the price at which the customer purchases an item). There is a functioning data governance organization in place.

I know what the data means, but I often have to explain it to others as there is often confusion.

Our IT team is able to quickly add new sources to our data warehouse or other integrated reporting environment.

It takes some time to integrate new sources to our data warehouse, but our IT team is able to provide interim options to leverage data from a new source.

I have a dashboard or reports where I can quickly answer most management questions without having to do much additional analysis.

It takes some time. I often have to cobble together a few reports I have access to and do other data manipulation (e.g. create a pivot table or use v-lookups across a few Excel sheets) to get the answer I need.

It takes a while. I often have to request some data from IT or another technical resource.

We have conducted and audit and have a full set of HIPPA and/or PII policies and procedures, we also have a party that is responsible for ensuring compliance.

I must build a business case for my request. The request is then evaluated by a governing body that weighs all requests and approves those projects that align with the organizational objectives.

Our 3-year IT roadmap is aligned to help us achieve our vision and is revisited on at least an annual basis to be recalibrated.

We have a roadmap, but it was developed in a vacuum with little input from key stakeholders.

We would survive; institutional knowledge is well documented and understood by a plurality of resources.

It would be extremely painful; institutional knowledge is partially documented. We'd eventually survive, but not without a substantial amount of heartache and tribulation.

On average, resources within our IT organization spend two weeks or more on training and skill development in a given year. The focus of training is based on a combination of resource interest and organizational skill needs/gaps.

On average, resources within our IT organization spend up to two weeks or more on training and skill development in a given year. However, the training is either dictated by the organization or the resource selects the training without ensuring alignment to the organizational needs.

Typically, resources within our IT organization primarily build skills through hands-on experience. Very little additional training is provided.
