Welcome to the Waterton Springs Campground Revitalization Survey! |
The Blackfoot Confederacy Tribal Council (BCTC) is conducting a feasibility study to explore the potential for creating a Blackfoot eco-cultural destination at the Waterton Springs Campground, a 77-acre property adjacent to Waterton Lakes National Park. This area, known as Paahtómahksikimi (inner sacred lake within the mountains), is at the heart of Blackfoot territory and offers an opportunity to honour and share our responsibility to care for the land, while creating social, environmental, economic, and cultural benefits for our nations.
—
Grassroots cultural tourism development means taking care of our people first. The concept being explored can establish a place for our communities to gather and practice culture, participate in knowledge transfer, honour our ancestral lands, and build capacity through Siksikaitsitapi-led sustainable development. This project aims to empower our people by creating career opportunities in Indigenous tourism, with artisans, storytellers, chefs, and cultural entrepreneurs or all kinds at the heart of the initiative.

We want your voice to be heard! This feasibility study will determine how the BCTC will move forward with the project, therefore your ideas, thoughts, and opinions are critical. Currently all information is purely conceptual as we are exploring the viability and desirability of this project.
