The City of Kingston's I-587 at Albany Avenue intersection is in need of design improvements in order to increase the level of service for motor vehicles during peak travel hours and increase the safety and access of the intersection for pedestrians and bicyclists. In 2011, the Ulster County Transportation Council funded a planning study to propose conceptual designs for these improvements. In 2012, the City of Kingston Common Council passed a resolution in support of the study. The next steps for the project are to complete detailed design and construction. Since this intersection is a state-owned road, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is conducting the detailed design and construction phases. NYSDOT Region 8 has begun design and construction is planned for late fall 2018.
