Academy General Information
The Words Beats & Life Academy is a pre-vocational after-school Hip-Hop program primarily for youth ages 8-22 in Washington, DC. We engage students interested in Hip-Hop culture by cultivating excitement for learning in our non-traditional classrooms. The Academy is focused on handing down the history, techniques, and traditions of Hip-Hop, advancing the pursuit of post-secondary education, nurturing and protecting a community of young artists, scholars, and entrepreneurs, producing premiere events featuring young Hip-Hop artists in Washington, D.C., and to celebrate what is new about Hip-Hop and the people that product it.
Once you submit this form you are enrolled in the Academy.
The 2024-2025 Words Beats & Life Academy will operate at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church located at 1525 Newton St. NW in Columbia Heights (Ward 1) as a series over three program blocks:
September 9, 2024-December 13, 2024
January 6, 2025-April 11, 2025
andApril 21-June 13, 2025.
The program will run on Monday and Tuesday from 3:30-6:00pm for elementary students grades 3rd-5th (ages 8-11), and Wednesdays and Thursdays for youth/young adults ages 12-22. Students attend each week for as many days as they like and take a range of art classes.
