This symposium explores Envisioning AI Education Across Disciplines and how to develop strategies to infuse AI into courses from across the disciplines.

When: This 2-day in-person Symposium will be held on June 6-7, 2024. On June 6, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, we will host a poster session and welcome reception. On June 7, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, we will convene an all-day Symposium.

About: Meeting the workforce demands for an AI-skilled workshop, how can we expand the curriculum to address this challenge? What should students learn across the disciplines to contribute to building AI technologies and applying such technologies responsibly? This Symposium will engage HBCU faculty, staff, and graduate students, with industry professionals, on how to incorporate AI in the curriculum across the disciplines so students can solve the AI problems of today and the future.

Faculty, staff, and graduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and industry professionals are encouraged to attend.

Symposium Goals:
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration to advance understanding of resources, tools, and strategies to advance student learning
  • Identify and share courses and other student learning experiences that have effectively incorporated AI into the learning outcomes
  • Develop strategies to infuse AI into courses from across the disciplines, both the application and/or development of AI technologies
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration to advance the infusion of AI across the disciplines.
Target Audience: Those with expertise in AI/ML/data science and/or higher education who would like to advance AI learning experiences, including faculty, staff, and graduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and industry professionals.

Product: Each participant will be assigned to a group and will contribute to the development of shared documents. Participants will be tasked with collaborative work during the Symposium that will extend the collaborations. All participants will be expected to bring a working laptop and charging wires.

Support: Attendance is required on both days of the event.
  • Non-local HBCU faculty/staff/graduate students may apply for and receive travel and lodging flat reimbursement of $1,200.
  • HBCU faculty/staff/graduate students needing family care support may receive $100.
