Welcome to the ACVP Errors in Publication Query Submission Portal!

Background
The American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) has recognized that errors, omissions, or "false claims" in pathology data are becoming increasingly common in scientific publications, especially those that do not routinely include pathologists in their peer review process.  The ACVP Advocacy and Policy Committee and Board of Directors have therefore developed a prototype of a web submission portal that will allow professional scientists with advanced anatomic and/or clinical pathology training to report concerns on substantiative errors in publications – with the ultimate goal of creating a database to gather information to determine the extent of erroneous findings and interpretations related to anatomic and clinical pathology data published in peer reviewed journals.

Your feedback and the data gathered from submissions to this web portal will be collated and used to gather the information needed to promote the creation of standards and procedures in an effort to improve the accuracy of published pathology data and interpretation of results in published peer reviewed scientific research.  Any data obtained will be maintained strictly in anonymous form and will greatly benefit the advancement of this initiative.

We would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you in advance for your time and participation!

Guidelines
Potential examples of erroneous pathology or biology findings include:
 - Original research articles in peer reviewed journals (generally excluding pathology data published in magazines, online forums, posters, presentations, and/or workshops)
 - Hypothesis-based research in which disease effects caused by infectious agents or toxicological exposures, or recovery from such effects attributed to therapeutic agents, is claimed or implied.
 - Descriptive studies in which novel findings or paradigm shifts are claimed or implied (e.g. spontaneous disease, metabolic disorders, etc.)
 - Pathology methods, reported pathology results, and/or interpretation of pathology results.
 - Diagnostic errors or inadequacies that would likely find clear agreement among a large majority of experienced pathologists, as opposed to borderline or questionable issues.
- Findings that substantively affect the overall study outcome and article conclusions, as opposed to errors of little consequence.

For an individual publication, reported concerns could include a single substantiative error (for example, limited to figure images) or a multitude of observations. Most importantly, the reported observations should be described in detail within the provided comment boxes.
