Gene Drives in Australia - Discussion Paper |
Expert Working Group - Australian Academy of Science
The Discussion Paper on Gene Drives in Australia is a contribution from the Australia Academy of Science to this rapidly developing area of science. This report discusses (i) the benefits and risks of synthetic gene drives; (ii) ways to minimise the potential risks of an unintentional release of a gene drive modified organism; (iii) social and economic implications and (iv) governance issues regarding gene drives. Our unique Australian environment generates a number of issues specific to our country and this report reflects such benefits and problems. The Academy intends that this discussion paper will inform government and community thinking and decisions about gene drive technology in Australia.
