Northeast Neighborhood Community Survey

Thank you for participating in this survey for the Northeast Neighborhood Small Area Plan. The plan will address the portion of the City shown on the below map outlined in green and labeled as the Northeast Neighborhood and the Urban Renewal Area. This survey is an opportunity for residents and businesses to share your thoughts about what makes this neighborhood special, where improvements are needed, and your vision for the future. Your feedback will directly inform plans to address housing, transportation, community spaces, and economic opportunities.

This survey’s questions are based on initial feedback received from residents during an in-person engagement held on November 9 and a virtual meeting on December 9. This survey will take about 10 minutes to complete. Thank you for helping shape the future of the Northeast Neighborhood!

Question Title

Harrisonburg was selected in September 2023 to be the recipient of a Community Connectors Program grant through national nonprofit Smart Growth America and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The grant of $130,000 is focused on building local capacity to co-design projects alongside impacted communities to advance new transportation infrastructure projects that repair damage from divisive infrastructure. The Harrisonburg team is led by the Northeast Neighborhood Association, Shenandoah Valley Black Heritage Project, Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance and the City government.

A portion of the grant funds will be used for an inclusive, community-driven planning process with the goal of establishing a Small Area Plan with recommended tangible actions to achieve the Northeast Neighborhood’s vision.
