The world seems to have grown a bit darker over the past two years. The Beta Phi Mu motto Aliis inserviendo consumor, “Consumed in the service of others”, seems like the perfect antidote or solution to moving forward and rebuilding our organizations and institutions. We all know the power of recognition, of opportunities such as scholarships, and of connections within the profession. Beta Phi Mu is a career benefit and I would be happy to take a leadership role in promoting and ensuring the positive force and aims of Beta Phi Mu. This was a wonderful experience as I was able to learn the practice and worked closely with faculty to carry out the ceremony while promoting the values of Beta Phi Mu. Becoming involved while also being a member of Beta Phi Mu has made me realize how much I wanted to contribute to the organization on a national scale. I am interested in serving as a Director-at-Large for the Beta Phi Mu International Society. Holding this position would allow me the opportunity to encourage scholastic achievement among students in library and information studies, while contributing to the growth of the organization in providing opportunities for other information disciplines such as the humanities, information science and technology.
