The Oregon Coastal Management Program (OCMP) is hosting a workshop to develop site management plans for the rocky habitat protected area near Tillamook designated last year: Cape Lookout Marine Conservation Area (MCA).

OCMP is a federally recognized program housed within the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD). We work in partnership with tribal governments, coastal jurisdictions, state and federal agencies, and other partners to ensure that Oregon’s coastal and ocean resources are managed, conserved, and developed consistent with statewide planning goals.

Following the 2023 Amendments to the Territorial Sea Plan Part III: The Rocky Habitat Management Strategy, the OCMP is engaging communities in the development of management strategies for the eight rocky habitat protected areas designated last year. We would like to invite you to participate in this discussion and planning process.

OCMP is facilitating a two-part public workshop series in 2024 and 2025 to help inform the development of these area-based management plans. The site management plans will live with coastal communities and serve as a guiding framework to support activities within the protected areas. The workshop series will be open to the public and will include a 15-mins public comment period.

The first workshop is intended for professionals and volunteers with interest or experience in rocky habitats, local jurisdictions, coastal tribal staff, state and federal agency staff, and other interested parties. As a group, we will brainstorm a vision for Cape Lookout MCA and discuss how each entities’ work might intersect with this vision. We will discuss how the site designation can contribute to a meaningful experience for visitors and protect the marine resources.
