I am asking you to participate in a research study titled “Parental Marital Satisfaction of Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder”. I will describe this study to you and answer any of your questions. This study is being led by Dr. Adam Fried, Director and Assistant Professor, Clinical Psychology Department at MWU.
What the study is about
The purpose of this research is to learn more about relationship satisfaction of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and factors associated with relationship satisfaction.
In order to be eligible to participate, you must:
1. Be age 18 or older
2. Be in a committed romantic relationship. Only one partner will complete the study.
3. Have a child with autism spectrum disorder who is 12 years or younger. Your child must have been diagnosed by a professional.
What we will ask you to do
I will ask you to complete an online survey asking your demographic information, basic questions related to care needs of your child, relationship satisfaction, and parental stress. The survey should take approximately 15-30 minutes to complete.
Risks and discomforts
Possible risks and discomfort involved with this research is described as follows:
· Emotional risks (e.g., feeling of stress, anxiety or sadness in answering questions)
· Physical risks such as computer eye strain, or headache.
Benefits
The possible benefits of participation in this research includes the following:
· Experience may lead to better understanding of self.
· Information from this study may benefit programs and professionals in developing resources and interventions related to these issues.
Compensation for participation
There is no compensation to subjects for participation.
In the unlikely event that you suffer an injury or illness directly related to your participation in this research project, upon your request, Midwestern University will arrange for the provision of treatment for such injury or illness at the closest medical facility. Payment for such treatment will be your responsibility, although your commercial insurance carrier, if any, may pay all or part of the medical expenses that you might incur. Midwestern University will not pay any monetary compensation for research related injury or illness or pay for treatment outside any MWU-affiliated Hospitals or Medical Centers. You are not waiving any of your legal rights by volunteering to participate in this study.
Privacy/Confidentiality/Data Security
The participants privacy and/or confidentiality will be protected through the use of the following:
· Anonymous survey format
· Only researchers will have access to online response data.
· Research will use secure online survey format.
We anticipate that your participation in this survey presents no greater risk than everyday use of the Internet. You can skip any question that you are not comfortable answering.
