About Mi Centro
Mi Centro is a nonprofit organization that promotes community and individual development throughout the Pierce, South King, and Thurston County areas. A key component of Mi Centro's mission consists of advancing the Latino and Indigenous communities, which includes support services such as housing assistance, our domestic violence victim assistance program, and our civic education program via the Dolores Huerta Institute.
To further support the community, Mi Centro offers scholarships to qualifying applicants to help them attain their higher education goals. Mi Centro strongly supports educational attainment of all forms and hopes our scholarships can help unlock your potential.
There is no merit, immigration status, volunteer, GPA, or any other specified requirement. If you would like to create impact or learn how to create an impact in your community, Mi Centro wants to support you!
Available Scholarships
Each scholarship has different qualifications. Please read them carefully and select the scholarships you wish to apply for. Applicants that select scholarships they are not qualified for will not be considered and may be asked to redo their application. Scholarship amounts are determined based on available funds, but are generally $1000.
1) David Almonte Memorial Scholarship | APPLICATION DEADLINE 3/1/2024 AT 11:59 PM
The David Almonte Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of former Mi Centro board member, David Almonte, who was a local business leader, community leader, and longtime advocate for Latinos in Pierce County.
The David Almonte Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of former Mi Centro board member, David Almonte, who was a local business leader, community leader, and longtime advocate for Latinos in Pierce County.
This scholarship is available only to high school students in the Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) district. High schools in TPS are: Henry Foss, Lincoln, Mount Tahoma, Stadium, Silas, Oakland, Tacoma School for the Arts, Tacoma Science and Math Institute, Tacoma School of Industrial Design, Engineering, and Art, and Willie Stewart Academy.
Applicants that are graduating seniors or recently graduated seniors from the aforementioned TPS high schools are eligible for this yearly scholarship. Applicants must provide a letter of reference and display a strong commitment to student leadership and community service.
2) Dolores Huerta Institute Scholarship | To be announced
The Dolores Huerta Institute (DHI) is a culturally competent civic education program within Mi Centro that teaches students the intricacies of Washington state government, lobbying, and advocacy. The DHI was named after famed Latino civil rights leader, Dolores Huerta, who is a longtime friend of Mi Centro’s executive staff.
This scholarship is available to all alumni of the Dolores Huerta Institute and to DACA recipients, regardless if they participated in the DHI. If you do not meet this criteria, you do not qualified for this scholarship.
3) Mi Centro Survivors Scholarship | APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED ON A ROLLING BASIS
Mi Centro is committed to serving
