About Mi Centro
Mi Centro is a nonprofit organization that promotes community and individual development throughout the Pierce, South King, and Thurston County areas. Our mission is to promote community and individual development, with a focus on advancing the development of the Latino community. Our support services include: Maru-More Centro Familiar, Camino al Éxito: Centro de Negocios, ArreguÍn Arts and Cultural Center, and the Dolores Huerta Institute.
To further support the community, Mi Centro offers scholarships to help individuals achieve their higher education goals. There are no merit, immigration status, volunteer, GPA, or other likewise prerequisite to qualify for Mi Centro scholarships. If you would like to create impact or learn how to create an impact in your community, Mi Centro wants to support you!
Available Scholarships
Please read the scholarship descriptions carefully and select the scholarships you wish to apply for. Some scholarships or assistances have specific purposes and populations it is aimed to help. Applicants that select scholarships they are not qualified for will not be considered and may be asked to redo their application. Scholarship amounts are determined based on available funds, but are generally $1000-$2000, depending on available funds.
1) David Almonte Memorial Scholarship | APPLICATION OPENS: 1/06/2025 APPLICATION DEADLINE: 3/09/2025 AT 11:59 PM
Named in honor of former Mi Centro board member and community advocate David Almonte, this scholarship is available exclusively to high school students in the Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) district.
Named in honor of former Mi Centro board member and community advocate David Almonte, this scholarship is available exclusively to high school students in the Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) district.
TPS district high schools are: Henry Foss, Lincoln, Mount Tahoma, Stadium, Silas, Oakland, Tacoma School for the Arts, Tacoma Science and Math Institute, Tacoma School of Industrial Design, Engineering, and Art, and Willie Stewart Academy.
Applicants must be graduating seniors or recently graduated from the listed schools, provide a letter of recommendation, and demonstrate a strong commitment to student leadership and community service.
2) Dolores Huerta Institute Scholarship | Accepted on a rolling basis.
This scholarship is open to alumni of the Dolores Huerta Institute (DHI). The DHI is Mi Centro's civic education and advocacy training program. The students that take the program are empowered to actively engage with Washington state government, advocacy, and lobbying through a culturally informed perspective.
3) Mi Centro Survivors Scholarship | APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED ON A ROLLING BASIS
This scholarship is open to clients of Mi Centro's Maru-Mora Centro Familiar. You must have submitted a client intake form to be considered for this scholarship. Applicants that have not done so will be contacted for client services before being offered a scholarship.
4) DACA Assistance Program
Assistance with DACA renewal fees.
