1. Introduction

In 2017, 2019, and 2022, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) conducted a survey on ‘Technology Adoption by the Accountancy Profession in Malaysia’ to gauge the level of technology adoption within the accounting profession. The findings were analysed in the following areas:

i. Existing application of technology
ii. Importance and awareness of technology
iii. Impact of technology
iv. Drivers and barriers of technology adoption
v. Effect of pandemic on technology adoption (2022)

The findings of the 2017 survey have contributed significantly to the development of the MIA Digital Technology Blueprint: Preparing the Malaysian Accountancy Profession for the Digital World, which was launched in 2018. Building on this, the surveys conducted in 2019 and 2022 have played a crucial role in the implementation of the Blueprint’s Operational Plans.

Following the last survey, it is now timely for MIA to assess the current landscape of technology adoption within Malaysia’s accountancy profession. The findings from the 2024 survey will offer valuable insights to assist MIA in identifying and developing new initiatives aimed at advancing the profession.
