SCU adjunct & lecturer faculty petition |
Please SIGN to support SCU adjunct & lecturer faculty
Dear President Sullivan and Board Chair Sonsini:
Like you, we are proud of Santa Clara University’s many accomplishments and
strengths. We write now to urge the University to move promptly toward another critical campus accomplishment: a resolution of the negotiation process for the first contract between Santa Clara University and the SCU Adjunct and Lecturer Union (SALU).
NEGOTIATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED WITHOUT DELAY. SCU adjunct & lecturer faculty DESERVE a timely contract and a living wage.
A few facts:
- 79% of SCU full-time lecturers earn less than a living wage, as defined by the federal government for Santa Clara County.
- 41% of all non-tenure track faculty commute more than 40 miles round trip to campus.
- 38% of SCU NTTs hold outside jobs to ensure a financial foundation and make ends meet.
- SCU non-tenure track faculty teach 50% of all undergraduate classes and make a critical contribution to SCU's high instructional rankings.
We urge you to empower the administration bargaining team to make serious and meaningful counter-offers on all outstanding issues, including raises sufficient to provide a living wage for all NTT full-time lecturers as soon as possible so that the union and the university can move forward together.
