Welcome to the Mandatory Reporting Self-Assessment
Naturopathic doctors have a legal obligation under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (“RHPA”) to report certain information to the College.
Mandatory Reporting is one of the ways in which the College’s mandate of protecting the public interest is achieved. It ensures that the College becomes aware of and can investigate incidents of possible professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity on the part of its registrants.
Mandatory Reporting is the duty of all NDs, employers of NDs or operators of a facility where a ND practices. The College’s aim is to investigate appropriate matters and ultimately protect the welfare and safety of the public.
When reporting information as per the reporting obligations under the RHPA, an employer, facility operator or ND should not be concerned about getting a registrant into trouble; rather, they are providing information that will help ensure that all regulated health professionals are accountable for their conduct and for providing safe, competent and ethical care to their patients.
This self-assessment tool has been developed to help Registrants understand their professional and legal obligations with regards to Mandatory Reporting and to keep Registrants abreast of the types of information that must be reported to the College. It uses questions to help you assess your knowledge of the mandatory reporting requirements and should be read in conjunction with the resources listed below.

All Mandatory Reporting resources are published on the College of Naturopaths of Ontario’s website. These resources have been developed to help naturopaths to become aware of what information needs to be reported to the College and to fulfill their Mandatory Reporting requirements.
Remember, failing to make a mandatory report or falsifying any information is considered professional misconduct that could attract a variety of penalties against you and your ability to practise.
