As part of Museums and Galleries of NSW (M&G NSW) submission to the NSW Legislative Council inquiry into museums and galleries in NSW, we are researching potential funding and support impacts on museums and galleries affected by council amalgamations.
The Local government amalgamation process, Fit for the Future, is in full swing. Anecdotally, and through some direct contact, we have heard about a range of impacts affecting museum and gallery activities. Some of these foresee positive outcomes, most envisage change to be negligible (or none at all) and others predict uncertainty, through loss of support, but it’s too early to tell the extent to which this might happen.
