Dr. Brian D. McCartney (July 19, 1950 - April 26, 1998) was the first Deaf Superintendent of the Michigan School for the Deaf from 1991 to 1997. This award was established in honor of Dr. McCartney, and is intended to offer support to the professionals in the field of interpreting. The funds are meant to be used to support those who are: in an interpreter training program, working interpreters or students seeking financial support for mentoring, Deaf individuals attending professional training, and/or working interpreters (Deaf or hearing) seeking professional development or educational support.
The award is $500 and applicants are eligible to receive this award one time.
