What are the Nomination Criteria?

For purposes of this application, we are using the following definitions:

Diversity The demographic mix of a specific collection of people, taking into account elements of human difference, including but not limited to race, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and disability status.

Equity To treat everyone fairly. An equity emphasis seeks to render justice by deeply considering structural factors that benefit some social groups/communities and harm other social groups/communities. Sometimes justice demands, for the purpose of equity, an unequal response.

Inclusion Authentically bringing traditionally excluded individuals and/or groups into processes, activities, and decision/policy making in a way that shares power.

Funding Money provided for a particular purpose through grantmaking, contracting, impact investing, or other methods of deploying capital.

What is the Selection Process?

GIA staff and members of the Task Force on Equity in Aging Philanthropy will review the submissions. If the nominator represents a different organization than the nominee, the nominee will be interviewed, should additional information be required. GIA staff will interview references for the top two finalists. The winner will be informed by September 16th and announced at the GIA Annual Conference, October 15-18, 2024.
