Overview

Thank you for your interest in the 2025 Brave Heart Fellowship! The program is a 6-month Fellowship running from December 2024 to May 2025. We invite self-identified Native American and Indigenous youth ages 18-24 from the Pacific Northwest (Northern California, Idaho, Oregon, Washington) and Alaska to apply.

Fellowship Details
Ten youth will be selected to participate, receiving micro-grants and technical assistance to develop and implement environmentally-focused Community Action Projects. These projects can take various forms, such as written reports, tribal ordinances and resolutions, digital media campaigns, community events, workshops, research projects, or anything else identified as a need in your community.

The program empowers Native youth to lead environmental justice initiatives, advocating for and mobilizing their communities to advance food sovereignty, protect traditional lands, waterways, and sacred sites, and preserve Native culture. This effort paves the way for an Indigenous-led future and safeguards the Earth for all.

Expectations
Those selected for the Fellowship are expected to commit time to Fellowship-related activities. CNAY expects Fellows to attend the following:
  1. Brave Heart Week (January 13 - 16, 2025): All selected Fellows are requested to attend four 90-minute nightly Zoom meetings to kick-off the program.
  2. Monthly Zoom Sessions: All selected Fellows are requested to attend monthly 60-minute Zoom meetings where they will network with one another, learn from environmental leaders and activists and receive support for their projects.
  3. In-Person Closing Convening (May 28 - 31, 2025): All selected Fellows are requested to attend the final closing convening. CNAY will pay for all lodging, travel and food costs associated with the event.
Application Details
The application will close on October 23, 2024 at 11:59PM PST.

You will not be able to save your application once you have started. We recommend writing answers to your application questions elsewhere and copy and pasting them here when you're ready to submit. You can find a copy of the application here.
