Thank you for your interest in joining the Portland Yacht Club!
To apply for membership at the Portland Yacht Club, applicants must read and understand the section of the PYC Bylaws that pertain to the rights and privileges pertinent to the category of membership they seek.
Below are PYC Bylaw excerpts outlining the Club’s membership categories.
ARTICLE I, SECTION 2A: BOAT OWNING
Any members of the Club who are 21 years of age or over and who own a boat, or are partners in the ownership of a boat, or are beneficiaries of a trust which owns a boat, shall be Boat Owning Members, unless such members qualify for classification as a Non-Moorage Boat Owning, Senior Boat Owning, Intermediate, or Non-Resident… Boat Owning Members may be assigned or continue to hold permanent moorage.
NOTE: Yacht requirements for a Boat Owning membership, and to qualify for club moorage, are defined in Article IV, Section S of the Club’s moorage rules. Applicants whose vessel does not meet these requirements are eligible to apply as an Associate or Intermediate member: Only power and sailing vessels that have a galley, head with sanitary holding tank/pumpout and dedicated overnight accommodations, shall be granted permanent Moorage space. Sailboats designed and intended for day sailing and are 20’ in length or more are excluded from this limitation and shall be granted permanent Moorage space.
ARTICLE I, SECTION 2B: NON-MOORING BOAT OWNING
Non-Moorage Boat Owning Member would have all the rights and privileges of Boat Owning Member, but they are not permitted to moor their boat in the PYC marina nor be eligible for the Move-in or Move-up list. In the event they wished to move into the PYC marina they would apply to the Board in writing and be required to pay the Boat Owning initiation fee for their age category in effect at the time they originally joined, less any initiation fee they may have paid.
ARTICLE I, SECTION G: ASSOCIATE
An Associate Member would not have a boat, as defined by the PYC moorage rule, within the 100 mile radius of PYC, and would not intend to move their boat within the 100 miles radius of PYC. An Associate Member will be granted Outstation privileges during club-sanctioned events, but will not be required to pay the monthly. In the event an Associate Member wished to become a Boat Owning Member they would make the request in writing to the Board and be required to pay the full initiation fee required at the time they joined, for their age category, less any initiation fee previously paid.
ARTICLE I, SECTION D: INTERMEDIATE
Any member of the Club between the ages of 21 and 35, inclusive, may be classified as an Intermediate Member. Continuation of Intermediate membership shall be strictly at the will of and subject to cancellation by the Board of Trustees. Upon reaching the age of 36, an Intermediate Member must be reclassified if continued membership in the Club is desired. Intermediate members, who own a boat, may be assigned or continue to hold permanent moorage.
NOTE: Once an Intermediate member reaches age 36, their membership status and monthly dues will be automatically adjusted accordingly.

Any member of the Club between the ages of 16 and 20, inclusive, shall be a Junior Member. Continuation of Junior Membership shall be strictly at the will of and subject to cancellation by the Board without recourse by the Junior Members. Upon reaching the age of 21, a Junior Member must be reclassified if continued membership in the Club is desired.
NOTE: Once a Junior member reaches age 21, their membership status and monthly dues will be automatically adjusted accordingly.
