OWNERS OF CHICAGO BIMBO & HOSTESS BAKERIES:
PUT HEALTH & SAFETY FIRST!
Food Production has been deemed an essential industry. Bakery workers in Chicago and Cicero are risking their health to keep Americans fed—while food companies are seeing record sales. Many of our family members and neighbors work at Bimbo and Hostess. Bimbo and Hostess Bakeries must insure workers are supported and not “bullied” by rules or financial need to come to work sick and risk spreading COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) among themselves and to us. We expect Bimbo and Hostess to implement a Risk Communication program that complies with WHO standards. To ensure safety for all, we fully support workers' demands for:
• An Increase in Paid Sick Days from 5 to 14. • A Suspension of “Points” for absences due to illness. • Hazard Pay: A $5 increase in hourly wages until the “shelter in place” order is ended.• A permanent onsite Public Health Specialist to implement Infection Prevention Practices
