OUTLINE
  • McCain and McDonald's are investing $1M CAD in testing regenerative practices in potato over the next 2 years, now entering year 2
  • Half of these funds will be used for targeted R&D projects and half will go directly to growers as cost-share grants for priority practices
  • The 2023 window for application will be open from September 12, 2023 through January 30, 2024
  • All Canadian potato growers supplying McCain are eligible to apply on the Fund 
  • One grower can submit multiple applications HOWEVER, the applications must be for different projects or equipement
  • Growers CANNOT receive funding for the same application they submitted in year one (2022/2023)
  • Maximum grant up to 25% project expenditure
  • Opportunity for 2 growers to collaborate on one application for a collaborative investment
  • Maximum grant not to exceed $10,000 CAD
  • Each application will be run through a priority scoring system before being submitted to the Fund Selection Committee

Priority Items Year 1 – (please note this list will be reviewed based on yearly priorities as defined annually by the Fund Selection Committee)                                                           
  • Soil Health e.g. enhancing crop & ecosystem, building soil resilience, minimizing soil disturbance and reducing agro-chemical impact
  • Projects with a clear impact on CO2 reduction or avoidance will be favored.                                                   

Committee                                                                
  • All grant requests will be submitted to the Fund Selection Committee.
  • Committee will consist of McCain rep, McDonald's rep, Soil Health Institute rep, and one provincial potato group lead.
Other information                                                               
  • McCain will make payments direct to the grower
  • McCain to retain no ownership of the asset, as applicable
  • McCain to make grant payment in full even if the grower is financing the purchase
  • Grant sums to be paid in full on the production of an appropriate supplier invoice
  • Full terms & conditions available via the McCain Ag portal
  • Selected applicants will receive notice from McCain Foods clearly defining the eligible intervention and expenses
  • Recipients will have until January 30, 2024 to provide proof of purchase of the approved materials.   
  • Upon receipt of grower invoices McCain Foods will issue payments directly to growers based on standard payment terms
