Minimum Wage Increase and Disaster Wage in Portland

How will this impact your organization?

The Chamber needs your feedback on the impact of Question A passed by Portland voters on November 3, 2020. This ordinance includes a minimum wage increase to $15 by 2024 and a disaster wage of 1.5x the minimum wage. Portland voters passed this change on Tuesday, November 3rd by a margin of 62% to 38%.

The present minimum wage is $12/hr. Maine’s current state of emergency, however, could increase that amount to $18/hr in Portland due to the pandemic. Should an emergency be declared when the minimum wage increases to $15/hr, the emergency wage will rise to $22.50/hr.
