Dear Friend of Ruth Washburn:

Ruth Washburn Cooperative Nursery School (RWCNS) is a nonprofit preschool dedicated to educating and nurturing children in an enriching play-based environment and engaging families in a supportive community.

Each year, RWCNS Cooperative members elect four Board members to serve a three-year term: two Board members are elected from the current RWCNS Cooperative, and two Board members are elected from the broader community.

We are seeking Board members from all walks of life to actively contribute their unique skills and experience to meet RWCNS’s current and future needs. We value diversity in ability, age, cultural background, education, ethnicity, gender identity, geography, immigration background, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. We recognize that diverse perspectives strengthen the Board and the Cooperative.

RWCNS Board members:
  • Believe in RWCNS’s mission, values, and philosophy;
  • Serve as ambassadors in the community;
  • Actively participate as part of the RWCNS Board team;
  • Contribute to a Board culture of respect, trust, and candor where questions are welcome;
  • Collaborate to provide foresight, oversight, and insight for our school.
The RWCNS Board of Governors is responsible for RWCNS’s overall policy, direction, and physical and financial well-being. The Board hires, evaluates, and collaborates with the Executive Director, who serves as an ex officio member of the Board and is responsible for RWCNS’s day-to-day operations. RWCNS’s bylaws and the Board Member Agreement are available on the RWCNS website.

Board meetings are generally held at RWCNS on the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Board members commit to a three-year term of service and can expect a monthly average of four hours of Board-related commitments.
