Purpose / Goals: This course introduces basic crisis intervention techniques. Learn to recognize warning signs that allow for early intervention, plus how to use verbal and nonverbal techniques to avoid a violent confrontation. Participants will also learn personal safety techniques that can minimize injury if physically confronted. An effective team approach will be introduced.
Outcomes:
1. Identify useful nonverbal techniques for controlling disruptive behavior.
2. Develop verbal techniques to be implemented when de-escalation of verbal acting out is necessary.
3. Demonstrate physical principles of personal safety techniques to avoid client and staff injury if behavior escalates to a physical level.
4. Provide the best care and welfare for individuals in your facility.
