The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools is in the process of re-applying for the Education for Homeless Children and Youth (McKinney-Vento) grant which is awarded through the California Department of Education.

The intent of this funding is to facilitate the enrollment, attendance, and success in school for homeless children and youth. Additionally, the aim of program funds are to help ensure homeless children & youth have equal access to the same free appropriate public education as provided to all other children and youth.

As a reminder... "Homeless" as defined by McKinney-Vento states that children and youth who lack "a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence" will be considered homeless. This includes students doubled up due to economic hardship and unaccompanied children and youth.

A critical element of this application process is to conduct a needs assessment to determine the needs of the homeless students within our community and how best to meet those needs.

Thank you for taking the time to ensure the best possible services for this population.
