Seeking Your Feedback

The goal of this year's Calendar Committee was to produce a two year calendar to be approved by the Board of Education.  The following Guidelines for Consideration were compiled after reviewing survey data spanning the last five years.  They were referenced throughout the Committee's work.
  • Start in mid August
  • End prior to June, if possible
  • Strive for 2 weeks off at Winter Break
  • Maintain 1 week off at Spring Break
  • Seek alignment with other districts in the area
  • Attend more than the minimum 174 days, 1044 hours of instruction that MO Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires
  • Maintain 1/2 days at the end of each semester
  • Limit 1/2 days in general throughout the calendar
  • Seek balance between the number of days in Semesters 1 and 2
  • Maintain at least 30 additional days for Extended Year Schools
  • Schedule Convocation the day before the initial start date to preserve a contiguous break for teachers in Extended Year Schools

You will see four calendars below, the 17-18 and 18-19 Academic Calendars, and the 17-18 and 18-19 Extended Year Calendars for Crestview and Winnwood, alone. Please reference the calendars in answering the questions below each one. Note that all documents below are in draft form, pending your feedback, and final Board approval.

Update as of 12/6/16: All district calendar proposals are tentative and subject to change before finalized by the Board of Education.

Question Title

* 1. The 2017-18 Academic Calendar currently shows Spring Break as March 19-23.  Districts around us are considering the options you see below. The Calendar Committee wanted to provide you with pros and cons for each selection.  Read the following to better inform your response:

March 12-16
Pros: Better balance of quarters. Better alignment for MSHSAA spring activities and athletics. Aligns with current proposals for some neighboring districts.
Cons: Doesn’t align with current proposals in other neighboring districts. Earlier break than in past, which means a longer stretch between Spring Break and end of the year.
March 19-23
Pros: Aligns with current and recent district calendar timeframes.
Cons: Does not align with any current proposals in neighboring districts.
March 26-30
Pros: Aligns with current proposals for some neighboring districts who seek to align Spring Break with Easter, an option that doesn’t carry forward into future years.
Cons: Creates an imbalance between quarters if Spring Break is used as a quarter break. Doesn’t align with current proposals in some neighboring districts.

Which of the following weeks would you most prefer for Spring Break?
