Community Survey

Over the past five (5) years, the Shire of Merredin has achieved amazing milestones including the $10.5 million redevelopment of the CBD including Apex Park | Danjoo Waabininy Boodja and Town Centre, upgraded regional roads, commissioned a desalination plant for irrigation use, and opened a regional E-Waste facility and Tip Shop at the Merredin Landfill, along with several other projects that have transformed the community. Now, we're ready to build on that success and plan for the future by asking the community, what's next?

About Merredin
The Shire is located 262km east of Perth in Western Australia’s Central East Wheatbelt, encompasses an area of 3,296km². This vibrant local government area centred around the townsite of Merredin, has a population of approximately 3,232. Merredin serves as a key commercial and retail hub, supporting the industrial needs of surrounding shires while hosting a range of government agencies and essential services.

The Shire is known for its high employment rates, strong community involvement, with agriculture remaining the cornerstone of the region's economy. Merredin is a major receival point for CBH, as well as being home to the Collgar Wind Farm, and the Merredin Solar Farm.

The Shire of Merredin are currently undergoing the process of developing its first ever Council Plan, and we are calling on our community to help us shape the future of the Shire across our key themes listed below:


What is a Council Plan?
The Council Plan combines the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan into a single document, outlining the long-term priorities, goals, and vision that guide Council’s decision-making. This community survey is the first step in the Council Plan development process. We are therefore seeking feedback from as many people as possible to help us determine our strategic direction for the next ten years, including key service areas and projects for the future.

Are there other ways to get involved?
Absolutely! The Shire will be hosting a series of workshops and attending local events, giving you plenty of opportunities to get involved. If you would like to find out more about what activities there are on offer, please visit www.merredin.wa.gov.au.
