Farmer Perspectives on Agricultural Viability in Puget Sound

As a farmer in Puget Sound, you support our communities by providing safe, fresh, local food and other products and services. Your stewardship of the land supports a range of vital ecosystem services. You are producers in a regional economy that supports many others. In return, you deserve a secure and stable livelihood.

However, the viability of agriculture is a deep challenge. Many farmers live on the margins, uncertain about what each season will bring. Aging farmers are unsure how they will retire, beginning farmers struggle to get started, and those in the middle are considering other options to support their families. When farmers leave the land, it weakens food security and local economies, leaving fertile soil at risk of being permanently lost to development.

It’s time to elevate the needs of farmers, create a roadmap for the future, and make agriculture a priority. We invite you to participate in this survey so we at American Farmland Trust can better understand the needs of farmers and develop an action plan to uplift the viability and vitality of agriculture in Puget Sound.

This survey is for current, former, and aspiring land-based farmers in the Puget Sound region and will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. After completing this survey, you can enter a drawing for one of five $100 VISA gift cards or one of a dozen “No Farms No Foods” twill caps.

The data provided in sections 1-6 will be anonymously gathered and analyzed. The optional information collected in section 7 will only be used by American Farmland Trust for outreach and the prize drawing.
