Introduction

Impact Washington (IW) is Washington’s official representative of the National Institute for Standards and Technology’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership National Network. Impact Washington’s mission is to support and energize Washington’s manufacturing base through consulting services that enhance productivity and technology performance.

The Washington State Legislature recently created the Future of Work Task Force, to address rapid changes in the manufacturing workplace. The Legislature charged the Task Force to prepare Washington state for a workplace that will feature automation, artificial intelligence, and other technology advances.

To provide critical information to this effort, Impact Washington will assess technology adoption and related workforce concerns among Washington state manufacturers. The assessment will help Impact Washington convey to legislators and policymakers how they can best support manufacturers and ensure that access to advanced technology resources are available state-wide.  Additionally, the project looks at how industry can ensure their employees receive the education and training options they need to succeed in an ever-changing, world-wide market.

Community Attributes Inc. (CAI) is a research consulting firm that will support Impact Washington with a survey of technology adoption among Washington’s manufacturers. CAI will analyze the surveys to help assess the challenges and benefits of technology to Washington’s manufacturers. As a manufacturer, your input through this survey is critical to this effort.

The survey should be completed by an individual within your company with a strong understanding of the technologies being employed across company operations, from the production floor to management systems. This could include an owner, a general manager, CEO, or other leadership representative.

The data requested in the survey will be confidential. Only Community Attributes and Impact Washington will see the information you share, and all results will be aggregated across all respondents. This information will not be used for any other purpose other than for this study.

This survey should take approximately 25 minutes to complete. It includes 26 questions, organized in the following sections:

·       Business Profile (for analysis and segmentation purposes)
·       Technology Adoption
·       Workforce and Training for Technology

Thank you for your help!

Sincerely,

Meg Ryan, PhD
