This COVID Recovery Youth Engagement Toolkit (Toolkit) was developed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to support the inclusion of young people’s voices in the recovery planning for communities in Western and South-Western Sydney. The Toolkit can be used by youth advisory groups, local councils, youth and community sector organisations, government departments or other organisations wishing to involve young people in their work.
The Toolkit is based upon a strengths-based approach known as Appreciative Inquiry (AI) to include the voices of young people when planning for recovery. It can be extended to develop skills and strengthen community assets and resilience. Overall, the Toolkit has been created to stand the test of time beyond Covid-19 and can be easily adapted to suit any context where you would like to improve your engagement with young people.
Youth Action is currently seeking Expressions of Interest to complete workshops with groups of young people about the Toolkit. This will be practical sessions and your group will walk away with a strengths-based approach focusing on asking different types of questions to identify the strengths and assets of a community, guiding discussions about what solutions young people feel are possible for their community.
These workshops will be rolled out over the next few months.
