* Do you have any nominations for the Block A Ring?

The Block A Ring shall be awarded to outstanding athletes who participated as members of interuniversity teams and met the following criteria:
1) compete on an interuniversity team for a minimum of four years of eligibility
2) has already received the Block A Sweater Award
3) has demonstrated above average performance in academics (a min. 3.0 G.P.A in the most recent academic years where the student has attempted 60 or more credit units). Note: Current year’s GPA is unavailable at selection time.
4) has contributed over a minimum of three years to the administration/leadership of their team

For example: An athlete may not have been the MVP, but may have been a CW All Star at some point in their career. We would not support the recipient that has played a marginal role on a team, such as playing in only half the games or contests, or practicing but not travelling.

Note: Due to the demanding standards associated with this award,  it may not be awarded on a yearly basis.

Note: While UAB involvement is absolutely required, community contributions are given full consideration in meeting this condition.

Names shall be submitted to the Awards Committee by the coach, UAB Executive and/or Awards Committee.

Question Title

* Do you have any nominations for the R.G. Glassford Award?

These Coaching Recognition Awards were established by Dr. Gerry Glassford, former Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation. Dr. Garry Smith, past Chairman of the Department of Athletics, donated the trophy. The awards may be presented to an assistant coach of one of the Golden Bears and Pandas teams or a coach outside the University of Alberta system.

The recipients of the award must have coached for a minimum of five years. A key factor in selection is that the University of Alberta must have benefited from this coaching, either through coaching our own varsity athletes or by producing athletes that play on University of Alberta teams.

The winners shall have demonstrated long standing coaching excellence in the follow areas: teaching ability, knowledge of the sport, and the ability to motivate the athletes they coach. The person's teams must have demonstrated high levels of sportsmanship, ability and fitness.

It is intended that the R.G. Glassford Awards consider gender equity as a principle in the selection of the recipients.
