Exploring the sexual health knowledge, attitudes, and experiences of Lebanese Canadian Muslim women in Montreal, Ottawa, and Windsor: An online survey

Introduction:
Thank you for participating in our study.

This study is being conducted by Roa Sabra, a PhD candidate in Population Health at the University of Ottawa, as part of her dissertation research. The project is under the supervision of Dr. Angel M. Foster, a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa. This study is funded through Dr. Foster’s research budget.

Survey instructions:
This study is designed to explore the sexual health knowledge, attitudes, and experiences of second generation Lebanese Canadian Muslim women in Canada. The aim of this study is to provide healthcare providers with insight into providing culturally sensitive sexual health care and facilitate access to these services.
You are eligible to participate if you:
  • Self-identify as a Lebanese Canadian Muslim woman
  • Are between the ages of 18 and 49 (inclusive)
  • Are a Canadian citizen and reside in Canada
  • Have at least one Lebanese parent who immigrated to Canada from Lebanon on/after January 1, 1980
  • Reside in one of these cities: Ottawa, Montreal, or Windsor
This voluntary survey will take 20-25 minutes to complete. We will ask you a series of questions about yourself, your sexual health history, and your knowledge of, attitudes toward, and experiences with sexual health and accessing sexual health services. After completing the survey, we will direct you to a separate webpage and will ask you to indicate your interest in participating in a 60-minute telephone or audio-Zoom interview or focus group discussion and you will have the opportunity to request the final results of the study. On this page, you will also be able to enter your name into a draw for a $50 gift certificate.

Contact information that you share on this page will be delinked to the information you provided in the survey and will be stored in a separate database.
Privacy and confidentiality:
We will not ask you to provide personally identifying information as part of the survey. Further, any information or personal details gathered in the course of the study are confidential. We may quote from free-answer responses, but we will remove or mask any identifiable information. If you do not want any of your responses to be quoted, please indicate so during the survey by typing “please do not quote this response.”

Please note that once submitted you will not be able to withdraw the information you provide given the anonymous nature of the study.

We will store data from the survey on secure systems that can only be accessed by members of the study team for five years after the conclusion of the study. To minimize the risk of security breaches and help ensure your confidentiality, we recommend that you use standard safety measures such as closing your browser when you have completed the survey or using private browsing mode on your device.

Risks:
There are few risks associated with participation in this study. Some of the questions that we ask may make you uncomfortable - you do not have to answer any questions that you do not want to.

Benefits:
There are few direct benefits associated with participating in this study. However, we hope that the findings from this study will inform efforts to improve sexual health information and services in Canada.
