Newport News Public Schools has received $82,142,456 in federal relief to help safely reopen post-COVID-19, sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impacts of COVID-19 on students by focusing on students’ academic, social, emotional and mental health needs. These funds come through the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary Relief Fund, also known as ARP/ESSER III.
AAt least 20 percent of funds must be used to address learning loss, and the school division is also using ESSER III funds to improve ventilation systems in our schools as a way to prevent the spread of COVID and other diseases. For a more complete description of how ESSER III funds may be used, please visit this link. For a complete look at the current NNPS spending plan of federal relief funding, including ARP/ESSER III, please visit link.
Your input is needed as we continue to revise our plan to use ARP/ESSER III funds to meet the needs of NNPS students. Please provide your feedback by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
