Overview

Sage Publishing is now accepting applications for the 2024 Keith Roberts Teaching Innovations Award. Sponsored by Sage Publishing and the generous contributions of numerous Sage sociology authors, a key goal of this award, named in honor of the award’s co-founder and long-time organizer Keith Roberts, is to welcome early-career teachers, particularly graduate students, assistant professors, and community college instructors, into the Teaching and Learning Community.

Awardees will receive up to $1,000 in travel funds to attend the ASA Section on Teaching & Learning’s pre-conference workshop, held the day before the annual ASA meeting, and enrollment in the Teaching & Learning section (assuming ASA membership).

New sociology instructors and graduate students who have taught courses at a community college, college, or university for four years or less, are welcome to apply. Instructors from institutions that do not offer much training in teaching will have priority.

Additionally, the award committee will give a limited number of awards to new instructors who have already shown leadership in the Teaching and Learning community (e.g., leading teaching workshops, publishing in Teaching Sociology, etc.) Those awardees may be asked to help lead portions of the preconference.

The workshop, "From Classroom to Community: Cultivating Intersectional Solidarities for Hope, Justice, and Joy," will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, at the site of the 2024 ASA conference.

The deadline for applying is Friday, March 1, 2024. Awardees will be notified by Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
