IFMA Atlanta's fiscal year is July - June. It's time to elect officers for the next Fiscal Year. The following names and brief bio's are for Chapter Members who have been nominated and agreed to serve as officers.

*Charles Marshall - President

With more than 30 years of change, utilities and facilities management experience, Charles continues to serve the industry through his current role as Utility Manager for (ATL) Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s most efficient and busiest airport with over 110 million passengers annually and numerous volunteer organizations.  Under his leadership, ATL became the first U.S. airport to have its energy management system certified to the ISO 50001 standard, which has won the airport numerous awards like the Environmental Leaders 2016 Top Project Award; the Association of Energy Engineers’ Institutional Energy Management Award for Region 2 in 2016; and the International Facility Manager Association (IFMA) Facility Achievement Award in 2016.  Completing Harvard University’s Executive Program in Public Policy, Charles holds several graduate degrees and certifications.

Selected as one of the top 75 environmental leaders by the Environmental Institute in 2018, Charles promotes efficiency and sustainability in and outside the airport.   He served six (6) years as chair of the ATL EcoDistrict, the first registered EcoDistrict ® at an airport.  He is the current Vice President of the International Facilities Management Association Atlanta Chapter, one of the largest chapters in the world.  Nationally, Charles has served with the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) of the Transportation Research Board as an ambassador, panel member and chair and is currently an ambassador emeritus serving in other capacities.   His efforts with ACRP led to the creation of the first guidebook for water efficiency management at U.S. airports, ACRP Report 154, released in 2016.  He is a founding member of the United Nation’s Atlanta Regional Centers of Excellence.   Charles serves as an advocate for continuous improvement on councils, boards, publishing articles and speaking around the world

His experience with change, facilities and energy management spans several decades implement ISO 9001 Quality Management, ISO 50001 Energy Management, process improvement, manufacturing, energy performance contracting, building automated systems, energy security, and renewable energy.   He has worked with the United States Department of Defense as a Resource Efficiency Manager helping Fort Benning, the U.S. Army’s largest training installation, move toward federally mandated energy goal to which he has received numerous accolades for its energy program.    Charles led energy management team of the Atlanta Housing Authority, at that time, the fourth largest housing authority in the U.S., to implement a robust energy management program including the first energy savings performance contract for a public housing authority.  Being a former college instructor, a former Christian College of Georgia trustee, a charter member of the Association of Energy Engineering Energy Manager Society, Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge Steering Committee member, a member of the Emory University’s Center for Ethics CREATE program advisory council, Charles continues to promote asset management, energy management, environmental stewardship, and sustainability.

*Laura Hammond - Vice President

Laura is an experienced professional with 16+ years of success leading Facilities Management, Construction Management, and Real Estate initiatives and teams. In her current role as Director, Corporate Facilities for Inspire Brands, she manages Capital initiatives related to the company’s Headquarters and Regional Support Centers from concept (site selection, lease negotiation) to execution (scope development, design, construction). In her previous role as Department Manager, Corporate Asset Management for Mercedes-Benz USA, Laura lead the company’s Facilities Management, Corporate Security, and Environmental Health & Safety teams for all MBUSA’s corporate locations in the U.S. She has unique experience managing high-profile Corporate headquarters, having been responsible for Facilities Management for Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business, Invesco’s Global Headquarters in Midtown Atlanta, and the Mercedes-Benz USA Headquarters in Sandy Springs.

Laura is originally from Greenville, SC. She has a BBA in Management from the University of Georgia and a Masters in Building Construction and Integrated Project Delivery Systems from Georgia Tech. She is a LEED Accredited Professional in Operations & Maintenance. Laura is an active member of IFMA Atlanta and has served as the Chair for the Accredited Degree Program Committee for the past 2 years.

*Mike Ghinga - VP Communications

Mike is a rare metro Atlanta native. Born and raised in Norcross, he has lived in GA his entire life. Professionally, he is an account manager at Mallory and Evans Service Company, and works directly with Facilities Managers, Chief Engineers and Property Managers. His mission is to use his talents and abilities to create a loving, safe, happy, and prosperous life for his family, and maintain a positive attitude and sense of humor in everything he does. He looks for opportunities to help other driven professionals in a win-win manner.

In his professional role, he is responsible for understanding the big picture needs of the FM and then focusing on the facility’s HVAC systems. He has been in the industry for 7 years now and has advanced from a technician’s apprentice all the way to his current role as account manager. Mike has an associate’s degree in Air Conditioning Technology from Gwinnett Technical Institute. He hopes to continue to grow his network, build more relationships, and position himself to have a direct impact on FM’s goals.

Since joining IFMA and the Atlanta chapter in 2017, he has had a “service first” mentality. By plugging in to several committees and even chairing the business partner committee, he has been able to invest his time and energy into bettering our local chapter. Mike is excited about serving the Atlanta chapter this year as VP of Communications and looks forward to another fun and successful year with our organization.

Lyle D Gladney, CFM is the new Facilities Director for the Emory Proton Therapy Center. Prior to joining Aramark in January, 2020, Lyle had an extensive career in Facilities with Johnson Controls. Lyle has managed operations in a variety of markets including detention, government, research and development and class A office facilities. Lyle received a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mississippi State University and holds the Facility Manager Professional designation and the Certified Facility Manager certification from the International Facility Management Association.

*Machelle Clarke - Secretary

Machelle Clarke is a Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Administrative Services Technical Services Operations Supervisor and Transit Coordinator for State Farm Insurance.  She has worked for State Farm Insurance for 32 plus years and is currently a serving as a Team Lead to stand up approximately 1.9 million square feet of office space in Park Center for the State Farm - Atlanta Hub.  She also recently had the opportunity to stand up a new team for State Farm’s Technical Services Operations serving the Enterprise structure for State Farm.

Machelle graduated from Georgia State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.  In addition to her CFM, she holds the following insurance designations; Associate in Insurance Services and Associate in General Insurance. 

Machelle has been an active member of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) Atlanta Chapter since 2009.  She has served as a Past President and Chaired Atlanta Workplace numerous time.  She has also served in various other Board and Chair positions for the Atlanta Chapter as well.   She was a recipient of the 2015 Martha C Osborne CFM Award and the 2017 Distinguished Member Award.

Machelle was selected by the Association of Commuter Transportation as the 2017 National Transportation Coordinator of the year.  She is actively involved in assisting State Farm employees with the use of alternative transportation. 

Machelle has three children ages 19 (Conner) and 15 (Rachel and Tyler).  In her spare time, you may find her at a ball field in Florida or Georgia, gardening in her yard or reading a good book on the beach.

With 27 years of marketing and brand building experience, Christopher has spent 22 of those years as a member of the APCO family.  As the Marketing Manager for APCO, his responsibilities are a range of duties from campaign activations, sample design & production and sales sample support.  In addition, Christopher is responsible for the strategic planning and execution of APCO’s presence at more than 20 tradeshows across the US annually. Overseeing the concept designs, preparation and all logistics are key to the overall success in the efforts to further promote the APCO brand.

Christopher has been an active Atlanta chapter member of IFMA for the past 4 years and he currently serves as Chair of the Business Partner Committee.  APCO has been affiliated with IFMA on the National level as well as the Atlanta chapter for many years.
