Introduction

The title of this research study is A Study on the Relationship Between Job Satisfaction and the Big 5 Personality Trait of Agreeableness, and the Effect of Tenure on this Relationship.

I am Christy Castro, a doctoral student under the supervision of Dr. Vincent Giordano in the College of Doctoral Studies at Grand Canyon University.

The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a relationship between Job Satisfaction and the Big 5 personality trait of agreeableness, and the strength of that relationship. Once a relationship has been determined, then further analysis will be conducted in order to determine the effect that organizational tenure has on the relationship.

Key Information: How do I know if I can be in this study?

You can participate in this study if you:
  • Over the age of 18.
  • Able to access digital technology to take the surveys.
  • Currently a Tier 2 Technical Support Engineer.
  • Employed within Colorado, Colorado, United States.
You cannot participate in this study if you:
  • Are under the age of 18.
  • Do not have access to digital technology to take the surveys.
  • Are not a Microsoft Technical Support Engineer
  • Are not employed within Colorado, United States
Research Activities: What am I being asked to do?

If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to:
  • What?
    • Complete the Big 5 Personality Inventory, which asks questions about various dimensions of personality, (20-30 minutes)
    • Complete the Job Descriptive Inventory, which measures various facets of Job satisfaction. (20-30 minutes)
    • Complete a demographic questionnaire (10 min)
  • When? As soon as you consent to participation in this study.
  • Where? Research activities will be delivered and completed via electronic means, to participants within Colorado, USA.
  • How? Research data will be collected using a secure research platform called SurveyMonkey.
      Who will have access to my data/information?
      I will have access to all of your data and information. In addition, my dissertation chair, committee members, and all College of Doctoral Studies Reviewers may view your information and your answers as part of the dissertation review process.

      Am I required to participate in this study?
      Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. After reading this informed consent, you can decide whether to participate in this study or not. Also, if you choose to participate and then change your mind, you can leave the study at any time, even if you have not finished, without any penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. If you decide to stop participation, you may do so by sending me an email to ccastro28@my.gcu.edu indicating that you no longer wish to participate in this study. If so, I will not use the information that I collected from you before you choose to stop.

      Any possible risks or discomforts?
      There are no foreseeable risks or discomforts associated with this study.

      Any direct benefits for me?
      No

      Any paid compensation or incentives for my time?
      To show appreciation for your time and effort, five participants who have fully completed the survey will be randomly selected to receive one of five $50.00 Amazon gift cards
      Presentation of Information Collected

      The research data will be presented in dissertation format and published in ProQuest. Data will remain confidential and anonymous. Data will be grouped to answer the research questions.

      Privacy and Data Security

      Will other researchers ever be able to link my data/responses back to me? No

      Will my initial data include information that can identify me (names, addresses, or other identifying material, such as audio, specific demographics, etc.). No, your initial data will not include any identifying information or materials that can identify you.

      Will researchers assign my data/responses a research ID code to use instead of my name? Yes, a numerical code will be assigned to participants.

      If yes, how will researchers create a list to link names with their research ID codes? Codes will be assigned based on order of participant submission. No other identifiable information will be used to assign research codes to participants.

      If yes, how will researchers secure the link of names and research ID codes? How long will the link be kept? Who has access? What is the approximate destruction date? A password protected spreadsheet will be used to link the research ID codes and the names of the participants. Access will be limited to the doctoral student and the dissertation committee. The spreadsheet will be kept for three years and then destroyed with the rest of the data for study, approximately on 12-12-2026.

      How and where will my data be protected (electronic and hardcopy)?
      All data will be protected via electronic means, with password protection on all files.

      Data that will be protected include:
      • electronic survey responses
      • informed consent
      • demographic information
      Will artificial intelligence (AI) software be used? For enhanced research efficiency, artificial intelligence (AI) software may be utilized to analyze collected data and may involve the de-identified exchange of some personal or sensitive information. The data will not be disclosed in a way that could identify you.

      How long will the data be kept in the protected space? Three years.

      Who will have access to the protected data? I will have access to all of your data and information. In addition, my dissertation chair, committee members, and all College of Doctoral Studies Reviewers may view your information and your answers as part of the dissertation review process.

      Where and how will the signed informed consent forms be secured? Consent forms will be signed digitally via SurveyMonkey and will be stored via electronic storage with password protection. Consent forms will be stored together with the data, so that if withdrawal is requested the consent forms and data can be archived for no further use.

      Future Research

      Once identifiers, such as names, are removed from the data collected for this study, the de-identified information could be used for future research studies or distributed to other investigators for future research studies without additional informed consent from you or your legally authorized representative.
