Scholarship Overview

PURPOSE:

To enable the recipient to continue her education and pursue her ambition in a STEM field (with preference given to those pursuing technology-related careers).
 
THE AWARD:

Two scholarships will be awarded to students graduating from public or private high schools located in Tennessee.  The winning award will be for $6,000 with the runner-up receiving $4,000.  Scholarship recipients will be introduced and awards presented at the TWISTER event on Saturday, February 10th, by representatives of Women in Technology of Tennessee.  Recipients must be present day of event to receive scholarship awards.
 
REQUIREMENTS:

Be a female graduating senior of any Tennessee public school, approved private high school, or home school with a passion for technology.

This scholarship requires that the applicant has at least a 3.0 weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale; if another grading scale is utilized, applicants should work with their respective guidance counselor to calculate the GPA on a 4.0 scale.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Applicants must be registered to attend the TWISTER event and submit a complete application (including supplementary materials) by: February 3rd. 

Winners will be announced at the closing ceremony of the TWISTER event on February 10th. Winners must be present to receive the award.

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

A.  Essay of up to two pages (1.5 to double line spacing) addressing the following topic: (50 points)

"Ask what do you want now, to free yourself from thinking about the limitations of the technology and let your imagination take you to what things do you want to have done, what problems do you want to solve."

As you look to enter college and then the full-time workforce, what technologies will you focus on and what problems do you plan on solving through technology? And how?  How will this scholarship help you achieve this goal?

Particular attention will be paid to grammar, spelling, style, and presentation.
 
B. List of academic or service club memberships, honors, offices, years involved, and highest position held in clubs, classes, etc. (15 points) 

C. Two letters of recommendation stating leadership abilities and worthiness of student from (10 points):
  • a school teacher
  • a person from the student's community who is NOT a staff member at the student's current school or relative.
