Hereford Community Land Trust Housing and Workspace Survey
A possible Artists' and Makers' Quarter in Hereford
Hereford Community Land Trust (HCLT) carried out a survey of properties and spaces in the Historic Centre of Hereford with the aim of identifying any that might lend themselves to creating affordable housing. This led to the suggestion that the Berrington/Aubrey Street area of the city centre could lend itself to the creation of an Artists’ / Makers’ Quarter combined with affordable housing. This notion has since gained support from a number of organisations, and interest in pursuing the idea from officers and members of both Hereford City Council and Herefordshire Council.
Subsequent discussions led to HCLT being encouraged to make an initial outline bid to the Towns Fund, under which Hereford has been awarded £25 million, to purchase a block of property that could form the core of an Artists’ / Makers’ Quarter, together with affordable housing.
To be able to take this idea further forward, HCLT, working with Hereford MAKE, Hereford College of Arts, Ford Collective, Rural Media Company and others, needs to carry out a survey of those who might consider being part of such a Quarter, especially young artists and craftspeople. This survey will help ascertain the outline spaces and facilities that such a Quarter should contain, along with the need for affordable housing in the city centre from amongst those interested in being part of such a Quarter.
If you are even remotely interested in the possibility of being part of such a Quarter, we would appreciate it if you could complete this survey by the 31st December 2020 so that the data may be used to support funding and planning applications.
