Milford Township, MI (population 16,996) – Milford Township, located in Oakland County, Michigan, is seeking an experienced leader to serve as its first Township Manager. Milford Township offers a mix of residential charm and natural beauty with easy access to the Detroit metropolitan area.

Milford Township is a Charter Township, following the State of Michigan Charter Township Act (Chapter 42 of the Michigan statues). As allowed under the Charter Township Act, the Milford Township Board of Trustees voted in November 2024 to hire a Township Manager as its administrative officer, transferring this authority from position of elected Supervisor. As the Township’s Chief Administrative Officer, the new Manager will work cooperatively with the full-time elected Clerk and Treasurer to administer all operations of the Township and to implement policies and directives of the Board of Trustees.

The Township has 38 full-time employees and 2 labor unions. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of municipal budget management, human resources, and community planning. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with township leadership, staff, and the community are required to be successful at this new position. Strong knowledge of Special Assessment Districts (SADs) is preferred.

The Township’s fiscal year end 2023 audit shows the Township’s total Government Funds revenue as $14.1 million (General Fund $9.0 million) and its total Government Funds expenditures as $12.2 million (General Fund $6.8 million). The Township’s fund balance total for all Government Funds is $15.5 million (General Fund $10.7 million).

The Township is seeking a leader who can manage the day-to-day business of the Township and implement long-term strategies for Milford Township’s future, with a demonstrated commitment to engaging the public, supporting staff, and promoting transparency.

Candidate minimum qualifications include:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in public administration, business administration, planning, economics, or a closely related field.
Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible municipal management experience.
Masters of Public/Business Administration (MPA or MBA), or related degree, preferred.
