Dear Participant,

You are invited to take part in a 25-minute online survey, which investigates your understanding of particular terminology that is used to describe beverages.

What is the project about?
The University of Adelaide, School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, and the University of Nottingham, School of Biosciences are conducting this research project. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of your perception of certain attributes in beer, including mouthfeel and flavour.

Who is undertaking the project?
This project is being conducted by Natalja Ivanova (PhD student) with group members: Assoc. Prof Susan Bastian, Dr Lukas Danner, Dr Rebecca Ford, Dr Qian Yang, Prof Kerry Wilkinson.

Why am I being invited to participate?
You have been invited to participate in this research because you have shown interest in taking part, drink beer at least once a month, and are of legal drinking age (18+).
   
What am I being invited to do?
You are invited to answer consumer questions. For each question, you only need to indicate the answer which you find best describing yourself and your understanding. The information will be collected on an anonymous basis and it will be aggregated with other respondents’ responses for analysis. No sensitive information will be collected.  
    
How much time will my involvement in the project take? 
The survey will take from 20 to 25 minutes.

Are there any risks associated with participating in this project? 
The project has no foreseeable risks.

What are the potential benefits of the research project?
The knowledge gained from this project may assist the beer industry in tailoring beers that better meet the needs and expectations of beer consumers. Upon survey completion, you are welcome to participate in a prize draw and win some carefully selected beers.

Can I withdraw from the project?
Participation in this project is completely voluntary. If you agree to participate, you can withdraw from the study at any time. 
What will happen to my information?
Information and data gathered from the study will be aggregated, stored in non-identifiable (anonymous), electronic form for at least 5 years and remain confidential in a secure database. The information provided will only be read by the scientists in charge of this project. The data will be published in relevant scientific and industry journals as well as via national and/or international conference presentations, but no individual will be identified by name in any publication or presentation. You will not receive any unwanted communication from any third party as a result of your involvement. Your information will only be used as described in this participant information sheet and it will only be disclosed according to the consent provided, except as required by law.

What if I have a complaint or any concerns?
The study has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee at the University of Adelaide (approval number H-2020-080). This research project will be conducted according to the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007 (Updated 2018).
