Introduction

A Chara,

Last November, as part of the Sustainable Leadership project, IPPN published a report Primary School Leadership: The Case for Urgent Action – A Roadmap to Sustainability. The report endeavours to do two things –
·         to provide an evidence/research-informed analysis of the current reality of primary school leadership and
·         to explore the key issues and identify solutions that will have a positive impact on leadership capacity, effectiveness and sustainability, with a consequential positive impact on school effectiveness and outcomes for children.

The focus of our advocacy work on this is the enhancement of leadership capacity, effectiveness and sustainability, which is central to the mission of IPPN. Your engagement with our members’ survey and your participation in the Health & Wellbeing research provided the rich data which allowed us to analyse that current reality of primary school leadership and which has informed that advocacy.

As a follow-up to the publication of the report, we are working towards the development of a progress report which will issue at the IPPN Principals’ Conference in November. Aside from detailing the engagement we have had during the course of the year and mapping the progress that has been made in relation to the recommendations in the report, we will also be including up-to-date data gleaned from member surveys of both principals and deputy principals.

Your input provides a vital evidence base which will strengthen the case for progressing the recommendations and make leadership roles more sustainable. The survey will take approximately 7 minutes to complete. All questions are optional. However, we would really appreciate you completing all questions that are relevant to your leadership role.

We deeply appreciate and value your participation.
Le meas,
Brian O’Doherty
