About the project
The purpose of this form is to gather feedback on the Framing of a Nature-Positive Economy (NPE). We propose a preliminary definition and framing in this consultation. Feedback from stakeholders will inform the development of our revised and final conceptual framework for the NPE, which will inform the scope and content for future policy, strategy, and practice.
This consultation is undertaken within GoNaturePositive!, a research project funded by the European Union (Grant Agreement No. 101135264). Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Commission. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.

Question Title

* 1. Which stakeholder group do you identify most strongly with?

Question Title

* 3. What gender do you identify with?

Question Title

* 4. We propose:

"A Nature-Positive Economy (NPE) means that the net results of all economic activities combined, leads to an absolute increase in nature towards full recovery."
*According to the Nature Positive Initiative, ‘Full recovery of nature’ means more nature in the world in 2030 than in 2020, followed by continued recovery.

Do you agree or disagree with this proposed definition?

Question Title

* 5. Based on this definition of a Nature-Positive Economy, as meaning:

“that the net results of all economic activities combined, leads to an absolute increase in nature towards full recovery."

This means that some nature-negative economic activities may still occur as long as the combined outcome overall is nature positive.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Question Title

* 6.

Operationalising the NPE means that businesses, governments, and other ACTORS take ACTIONS across multiple SCALES and SECTORS, aligning with SOCIETAL FACTORS to improve social-ecological well-being and equity.

Is this comprehensive? Do you agree?

Question Title

* 7.
Operationalising the Nature-Positive Economy
means taking actions to
(1) reduce negative impacts on nature such as identifying and reforming environmentally-harmful policies, subsidies and activities;
(2) increase positive actions such as putting in place policies, subsidies and finance to support nature restoration and regeneration; investing in nature-based solutions and enterprises and
(3) transformative change towards full recovery on a societal scale such as long-term actions towards systems-wide change including better approaches for valuing nature and measuring progress beyond GDP.

Do you agree?

Question Title

* 8. We propose that new opportunities will emerge as part of the transition to a nature-positive economy e.g., in the area of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and Nature-based Enterprises (NbE) in fields such as regenerative agriculture, ecosystem restoration and urban greening.
Do you agree?

Question Title

* 9. What metrics do you think are appropriate for measuring a NPE, considering different actors, scales, sectors and societal factors?

Question Title

* 10. Whole of Society Engagement

We describe:
"A Nature-Positive Economy must respect international human rights obligations. Constructive engagement with citizens and all of society is essential for achieving an NPE".

Is this appropriate? Do you agree?

Question Title

* 11. Aspects of the NPE: Actors
We describe the roles of:
- Policy-makers and governments,
- Businesses including small and medium-sized enterprises, nature-based enterprises,
- Finance and investors,
- Standards Bodies,
- Environmental NGOs,
- Researchers
- Citizens and civil society groups with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), youth

Have we captured all the key actors in the NPE?

Question Title

* 12. Aspects of the NPE: Scale
We describe the NPE in terms of spatial and temporal scales.

With spatial scale, we note the importance of global, regional, national and local scales.

With a temporal scale, we emphasise the NPE as a transitional economy to a point of nature recovery, not an indefinite state for the economy.

Is this appropriate?

Question Title

* 13. Aspects of the NPE: Sectors

We describe the need to:
1. Reduce negative impacts of all sectors on nature
2. Increase sectors with a positive impact on nature (e.g. regenerative agriculture/forestry/blue economy, Nature-based Solutions)

Is this appropriate?

Question Title

* 14. Is there anything else you’d like to share about the concept of a Nature-Positive Economy?
