2025 IESNYC Student Lighting Competition Entry
2025 IESNYC Student Lighting Competition: A Sight for Sore Eyes
This year's challenge, A Sight for Sore Eyes challenges students to share an eyesore experience and construct a three-dimensional study to solve the visual discomfort of viewers. The proliferation of LED has led to great efficiency and optical control, but exposure to glare, flicker and spikes in the spectrum can cause eye strain. The sparkle of a chandelier can be pleasant, but consider the discomfort of exposed LEDs in streetlights, intense blue LED high beams in cars, or the frustration of flickering lighting when trying to capture a TikTok. Thoughtful design considers the comfort of the viewer while still delivering the right light for the application.
