Award Categories

The Honour Roll has five award categories. Each category will induct one nominee annually unless the nominations received do not meet the eligibility criteria, or no nominees are received for that category. Consistent with principles of GIPA/MEPA and the Ontario Accord, the OAN Honour Roll Awards requires that a majority of inductees be living with HIV. Important note: Individuals and agencies may only be nominated in one award category.

Person Living with HIV/AIDS Leadership Award honours an individual who self-identifies in the work as a person living with HIV/AIDS. The recipient demonstrates lived expertise, leadership, solidarity, and resistance, and provides inspiration and strives to reduce HIV stigma and discrimination.

Social Justice Award honours an individual or organization whose significant contributions brings awareness to issues of social justice and HIV and engages the broader public in the advancement of social justice and HIV concerns. The recipient advocates for issues of social justice and HIV in an effort to change public policy or sector-wide practice.

Emerging Leaders Award honours the work of leaders and innovators already making meaningful contributions with significant impact. An emerging leader is an individual who is committed to reducing stigma and discrimination and someone who initiates or assist in pursuing change This includes:

· Youth (defined as anyone under the age of 30)
· Newcomers of any age and/or those new to HIV and AIDS work whose contributions have had a significant impact for people living with and at risk for HIV and AIDS including contributions to programs, services, supports.

Lifetime Achievement Award honours individuals who through their long-term actions and influence over at least 15 years have inspired others and contributed to meaningful and lasting change in the HIV response.

Community Ally Award honours an individual or organization that delivers direct individual or community support through the provision of frontline or community resources, research or treatment to improve the quality of life and dignity for people living with HIV/AIDS.
