About the Research Data Stewardship Award

The Future of Privacy Forum seeks to recognize academic researchers and corporate partners for their efforts in promoting privacy protections in corporate data sharing for academic research purposes. FPF believes data held by corporate actors is an underutilized part of the research data landscape.

The Future of Privacy Forum will review nominations holistically, paying special attention to:
  • The extent to which the data shared may lead to scientific progress or has a public interest impact. Scientific progress includes contributions to accumulation of generalizable knowledge, correction or extension of the scientific record, or development of a novel method for data analysis in a domain of wide public concern;
  • The quality of the data sharing process based on: use of essential privacy protections, security of data sharing processes, the quality of data shared, model process(es) and novel methods used for data sharing and overcoming challenges to effective data sharing;
  • Demonstration of the company’s commitment to supporting independent research, such as through continued contact with researchers throughout the process; and
  • The extent to which data sharing was conducted in an open and transparent manner, or otherwise advances a scalable culture of sharing between the corporate partner and research institutions.
