Urgent message for Premier Jason Kenney and Doctor Deena Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer of the Province of Alberta. |
Please accept this petition and plea from Alberta food workers.
This is an urgent message and we need your urgent and immediate help!
Recent steps to limit customer counts in retail stores to a 15% threshold are clearly steps in the right direction.
However, the 15% rule is not working in our stores. We work at Real Canadian Superstores, Sobeys/Safeway, Co-op, SaveOn, IGA and are representing grocery store concerns in Alberta.
Some of our stores can still see up to 500 people in them at a time without any way to enforce social distancing, and a mockery is being made of the desperate need for meaningful public health measures. To make matters worse, we are even fighting to have our employers enforce masking for customers. We are in danger and need you to take steps to help us.
We request urgent, immediate, and sensible amendments to health regulations and urgent and immediate attendance upon supermarkets by enforcement officers.
Supermarkets and Grocery Stores are both part of the community and are communities themselves. They can be a place with very high risks of transmission. We can think of few other places with such high risks.
We ask, again, that you help us urgently. We are scared for our lives.
