1. Introductory Information

Dear Winter Seminar Applicant,

We're pleased to announce our forthcoming winter seminar, a collaboration between Duke University, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), and Centropa, at Duke University, February 13-16, 2015.

You will be immersed in 20th century European Jewish history, digital storytelling, Holocaust education, and conversations about how to make your classroom a global classroom. Learning from veteran Centropa educators, you will hear about cross-cultural projects between US and European schools, creative pedagogies using the latest technology, and student-directed projects that meet state and Common Core standards.

North Carolina educators will arrive Friday to attend NCCAT sessions on Friday evening and Saturday morning, and the Centropa seminar will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, February 14, and end at 3 pm on Monday, February 16.

While we wish we could accept all applicants and cover all expenses for each participant, we can't, and we will cover expenses of those accepted to the seminar as follows:

* We ask that North Carolina public school educators cover their travel expenses; all other costs will be paid for by NCCAT.
* NCCAT will also cover substitute reimbursement for Monday, Feb 16, for NC public school teachers.
* Independent/private school teachers from North Carolina: we will be able to cover your meals but ask that you cover your hotel costs (see below for exact cost), in addition to travel expenses.
* Public school teachers from other states, we ask you to cover your travel expenses and we will cover all ground expenses (hotels, meals, snacks), except for Saturday night dinner.

We will ask a $25 registration fee for those accepted to the seminar so we can hold your place. Those who attend the seminar will be reimbursed the entire amount.

Once accepted, we'll ask you to make your travel arrangements immediately, and those receiving reimbursements must save all original receipts and boarding passes in order to be reimbursed.

Please do not hesitate to contact Lauren Granite (granite@centropa.org, 301-787-0052) with any questions.

We look forward to reading your application.

Best,

Edward Serotta, Director, Centropa
Jonathan Wade, Director of Programming, NCCAT
Amy Vargas-Tonsi, Associate Director, Council for European Studies, Duke University
Lauren Granite, US Education Director, Centropa
